Skiing and Snowboarding Scotland
LAST SEASON WAS THE BEST CONDITIONS FOR MANY YEARS AND THIS YEAR IS ON TRACK FOR MORE OF THE SAME . . . . . .
Balgowan House in Newtonmore is roughly equidistant between Cairngorm and Nevis Range, which are the two largest ski areas in Scotland. This makes the house and ideal base for skiing, snowboarding and other winter activities.
Cairngorm, near Aviemore is the largest ski resort and closest to us an it offers skiing, a terrain park, snowbaording and sledging subject to conditions. There are over 30 km of ski runs and a fully maintained snowboard fun park, suitable for all levels from beginner to expert. Cross country, telemark, ski touring and ski mountaineering are also available from specialist operators. There is a recognised ski school that operates on site and Disability Snow Sports UK . Also, our local ski school Active Outdoor Pursuits have a great range of snow sports packages on offer and bases in both Newtonmore and Aviemore. The Aviemore base has a shop and fabulous cafe above serving excellent food, great coffee and hot chocolate.
Nevis Range, near Fort William has 12 lifts in total including Scotland's only mountain gondola, which transprts you effortslessly in just twelve minutes from the car park to 650m, where you will find the Snowgoose Mountain Restaurant and the ski area itself. With an up lift capability 9,600 per hour you can expect minimal lift queues.
The beginner's area is literally a stones throw away from the top station, with a variety of easy green and blue runs for you to gain your confidence and skills on. the runs are predominantly wide and open with some challenging blue and red runs in the main Snowgoose bowl for intermediates and extensive off-piste black and red runs for the more experienced.
If you would like some suggestions of where to hire ski / snowboarding equipment, where to get instruction and lift passes just ask....
